Spring Garage Sale

Take part in a nationwide spring garage sale!

This October, streets across Aotearoa will come to life with people opening their homes, garages and front yards for others to rummage through. The perfect chance for some spring cleaning and reconnection with familiar faces after winter hibernation.

Register your event and receive a free toolkit with helpful resources to get you started. We’re keen to support you along the way.

Garage sales are a great way to bring neighbourhoods together. They help to reduce waste, support circular economies, and offer a low-pressure way to connect in a time where people often report wanting stronger relationships with their neighbours, but don't know where to start.
To get involved, register your own garage sale by filling out the form below.
We would love to see a coordinated effort, with events taking place at the same time across the country. It might be the beginning of an annual tradition! And who doesn't love a good spring clean?
When you register your event, you will receive an email with some tips and ideas to make sure everything runs smoothly, both in the lead-up and on the day. This email will also include a link to a Facebook group, where you can join others across the country taking part. You will also have the option of receiving a free physical toolkit with a sticker, a balloon to tie to your letterbox, and some flyers to share with your neighbours.
The physical toolkit will include flyers that you can share with others living on your street. The email you receive upon registering will also include digital assets you can either print or share on social media. Spread the word!
If you are still unsure about where to start you can send an email to kiaora@neighboursaotearoa.nz or get in touch with your local community weaver. The Neighbours Aotearoa team will also be in the Facebook group, answering questions along the way.
This initiative is led by the community weavers, with support from the Neighbours Aotearoa team. Neighbours Aotearoa is a community development initiative dedicated to growing, connecting, and strengthening neighbourhoods across the country. First conceived as a single day event back in 2009, it has since evolved into a month-long celebration and now exists as a year-round movement.
